Alkaline Water Differences

RO Water vs Alkaline Water

Reverse Osmosis (RO) is a water purification process that uses a semi-permeable membrane to separate water molecules from other dissolved substances, such as, impurities and hard minerals in the water source. The membrane uses osmotic pressure to reject these impurities as small as 0.0001 (i.e. one-ten-thousandth or 1⁄10,000) micron in size.

RO Water vs Alkaline Water

AQUA 9+ water refill stations offer both reverse osmosis (RO) pure drinking water and RO alkaline drinking water.

In physical chemistry, osmotic pressure is the force that a dissolved substance exerts on a semi-permeable membrane, through which it cannot penetrate, when separated by it from a pure solvent.  In the RO water purification process, water is a solvent for those substances (e.g. impurities, hard minerals, etc.).

AQUA 9+ alkaline drinking water is generated naturally by first purifying the water source using reverse osmosis (RO), and then adding all-natural ionic minerals into the RO water to make it alkaline.  By itself, RO drinking water is acidic, with a pH range of 5 to 7.  As mentioned above, water that is produced by reverse osmosis has the impurities removed.  However, it also has the hard minerals, which neutralizes the RO acidic water, removed.  That is the reason we add all-natural minerals back into the RO water to not only neutralize the acidic pH, but to make it alkaline.  AQUA 9+ alkaline drinking water has a 9 to 10 pH range.

Since the process of reverse osmosis removes impurities and hard minerals giving the water a clean refreshing taste, AQUA 9+ alkaline drinking water has a smooth, rich, milky taste that is not found in just reverse osmosis drinking water.  Also, AQUA 9+ alkaline water is more effective at hydrating the body than reverse osmosis water – see What is AQUA 9+ Micro-clustered Water? for a deeper dive into the nature of AQUA 9+ alkaline drinking water.

In summary, RO pure drinking water and RO alkaline drinking water both come with their own benefits, and both are great choices in terms of drinking water.  Reverse osmosis water filters out every impurity (including hard minerals) – those that can harm the body.  AQUA 9+ alkaline water, on the other hand, infuses good minerals back into the reverse osmosis purified water that can help the body.
